Mariam Lambert at ICMP
Mariam Lambert Joins International Commission on Missing Persons – ICMP Roundtable on Missing Ukrainian Children in The Hague. The roundtable highlighted efforts about missing persons – ICMP’s focus. The June 19 event brought together government officials, lawyers, NGOs, and civil society representatives. They discussed strategies for locating Ukrainian persons unlawfully transferred to Russia. They also addressed the missing persons issue. On behalf of OFF, Mariam emphasized that the return of abducted children is a complex process. It cannot be handled by the government, NGOs, or lawyers alone. Missing persons – ICMP stresses that to successfully bring these children back, we must work collaboratively. We should involve 3rd parties, as international law is ineffective in negotiations with the Russian Federation. She also highlighted the need to unite efforts and evacuate as many people as possible from frontline cities and villages. This prevents the illegal transfer of children and adults by Russia. The focus on missing persons – ICMP underlines that since we cannot stop abductions entirely, we must do everything in our power to prevent them.
